I think "One Star" is too much for 3 months of work. I had it about 2 or 3 months when it stopped heating. This was great while it lasted. It just didn't last very long. Not a very good record.
We expected it to lift off the base as our large one does. Had we realized that it did not fully detach from the base, we would not have bought it. We bought this to use in our bedroom because it was small and slender and attractive. It is fully attached to the cord, making it unwieldy to pick up and pour in a small space.
I called Bodum and they told me to return it. I opened this kettle and the button did not work. So crappy product and no customer service when there is a problem.
Moreover, nothing that could not be removed with some sort of descaler, I would expect. A no-brainer. So probably not the kettle of choice for a large family or household. I must say, for a $30 little plastic kettle, I could never have expected this kind of performance. The functionality works perfectly - shuts off every time, boils very quickly, and endlessly reliable.
I purchased this kettle in August 2003, and I have used it *at least* once a day since then for my daily fix of tea. One other reviewer is right, there are some rust spots on the heating element, but I think that is to be expected on any metal heating element. As the name of the product indicates, it *is* a mini-kettle - I find that the 'Max' level marker corresponds to about 3 mugs of tea or coffee. Fantastic buy. I have to add this review, just to address the concerns of longevity which I read about in some of the other reviews.
But almost 6 years later, it's chugging along every day, and it's now being used 3-4 times a day, by my roommates as well. But for an office, college dorm room, or any other such scenario, this is a fantastic fit.
Boil water super fast, and has a very small footprint. I have nothing but praise for this mighty little electric kettle. Have had no trouble with it in 6 months+.(Note): I use this about 2-3 times a week.
